How to Get Your SSS Number in the Philippines: Complete Guide for BPO Workers
Starting a new job at ShoreAgents (or any formal employer) requires your SSS (Social Security System) number. If you don't have one yet, don't worry โ getting your SSS number is straightforward. Here's the complete guide.
What Is SSS and Why Do You Need It?
The Social Security System (SSS) is the Philippines' social security program for private sector employees. Your employer is required by law to deduct SSS contributions from your salary and remit both their share and yours to SSS.
Your SSS number is your lifetime identifier in this system. It covers you for:
- Sickness benefit
- Maternity benefit
- Disability benefit
- Retirement pension
- Death and funeral benefit
- SSS loan programs
Option 1: Online Registration (Recommended)
The fastest way to get an SSS number is through the SSS online registration portal.
Steps:
- Visit my.sss.gov.ph (official SSS website)
- Click "Register" or "Create Account"
- Select "Employee" as your member type
- Complete the online registration form with:
- Full name (as it appears on your birth certificate)
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Permanent address
- Citizenship
- Educational background
- Employment information
- Upload a clear photo of yourself
- Submit the form
After online registration, you'll receive a temporary SSS number immediately. For a permanent card and number, you may need to complete the process at an SSS branch.
Option 2: Walk-In Registration at SSS Branch
If you prefer in-person registration or can't complete the online process:
Requirements:
- Completed SS Form E-1 (Personal Record) โ available at SSS branches or downloadable from sss.gov.ph
- Original and photocopy of at least one of:
- Birth certificate (PSA-authenticated)
- Valid passport
- GSIS ID
- Driver's license
- PRC ID
- Voter's ID
Process:
- Go to the nearest SSS branch
- Submit your completed E-1 form with supporting documents
- Have your photo taken (at the branch)
- Receive your SSS number and claim stub for your SSS card
