Accounting Careers at ShoreAgents: What the Job Really Looks Like
If you have an accounting background and you're exploring BPO opportunities, here's an honest look at what accounting roles at ShoreAgents actually involve โ day to day, tool by tool.
Accounting Careers at ShoreAgents: What the Job Really Looks Like
Accounting is one of the most in-demand roles in the BPO industry right now โ and for good reason. Australian businesses rely heavily on accurate, timely financial management, and Filipino accounting professionals have the skills to deliver exactly that.
But before you apply, you probably want to know: what does an accounting role at ShoreAgents actually look like? What will you do every day? What tools will you use? What kind of clients will you support?
Let's walk through it.
The Role in Plain Terms
As an accounting staff member at ShoreAgents, you'll be assigned to support one or more Australian businesses with their day-to-day financial operations. Think of yourself as their remote finance team โ a dedicated professional who knows their accounts, understands their business, and keeps their books accurate.
This is not data entry work. It's real accounting โ the kind that requires judgment, attention to detail, and a genuine understanding of financial principles.
What You'll Actually Do
Depending on the client and your experience level, your responsibilities may include:
Bookkeeping and bank reconciliations โ Processing transactions, matching payments, reconciling accounts in Xero or MYOB. This is foundational and done regularly โ often daily or weekly.
Accounts payable and receivable โ Managing invoices, tracking payments due, following up on outstanding balances, and keeping records clean.
Payroll processing โ Running payroll for Australian employees, including superannuation calculations and tax withholdings, using tools like Xero Payroll or Employment Hero.
Financial reporting โ Preparing monthly profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports for the client's review.
BAS and GST support โ Assisting with Business Activity Statement preparation and ensuring GST records are accurate (you'll learn this if you don't already know it).
Audit preparation โ Organizing records and documentation ahead of external audits or end-of-financial-year reviews.
The depth of involvement depends on the client's size and needs. Some clients need a full-charge bookkeeper. Others need a broader accounting support role. ShoreAgents matches you to a role that fits your experience.
Tools You'll Work With
Australian accounting is heavily cloud-based. The most common tools you'll encounter:
- Xero โ The dominant accounting platform in Australia. If you know Xero, you're ahead immediately. If you don't, it's learnable.
- MYOB โ Still widely used, particularly by older or larger businesses.
- Employment Hero / KeyPay โ Payroll-specific platforms.
- Dext (formerly Receipt Bank) โ For receipt and document capture.
- HubDoc โ Document collection and bank feed management.
- Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets โ Still very much used for analysis, reporting, and reconciliation support.
ShoreAgents will help you get up to speed on client-specific tools during onboarding. But familiarity with Xero in particular is a significant advantage.
What Qualifications Do You Need?
At minimum, most accounting roles at ShoreAgents require:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Accounting Technology, or a related field
- At least 1โ2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong English communication skills (you'll interact with clients via email and calls)
- Proficiency in cloud accounting tools (Xero preferred)
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently
CPA certification is an advantage but not always required โ it depends on the seniority of the role.
What Makes a Great Accounting Staff Member?
Beyond the technical skills, the Australian clients ShoreAgents works with tend to value:
Proactive communication. If you spot a discrepancy, flag it before the client notices. If you're waiting on information, send a polite follow-up. Don't let things stall silently.
Consistent accuracy. In accounting, one wrong number can cascade into bigger problems. Diligence and a habit of double-checking your work are essential.
Reliability. Deadlines in Australian accounting โ BAS lodgment dates, payroll processing days, month-end reporting โ are non-negotiable. Clients need to trust that things will be done when promised.
Willingness to learn. Australian accounting rules differ from Philippine standards. You'll need to absorb new information โ tax structures, superannuation, GST mechanics โ and apply it confidently.
